Hammock Care
Washing & Storing Non-spreader Bar Hammocks
Brazilian, Nicaraguan and Mayan hammocks can be washed in a machine or by hand, but a few simple steps should be followed
to achieve the best results. First of all, fold your hammock in half by bringing the two hanging rings together. Then use
string to tie the hammock up in three places: just under the rings, at the other end and in the middle. This is important to stop
your hammock getting tangled up. You can then wash your hammock by hand using a mild detergent - remember not to use bleach!
Or, if you put the hammock into a pillowcase and tie it securely shut, you can wash it in a machine. Afterwards, unfold your hammock
and spread it out to help it dry. For storage, fold your hammock in half and tie it at both ends. Insert into a storage bag to
ensure it's kept free from dust, damp and insects. Alternatively, use the rings to hang it somewhere dry, such as a garage or
basement.
Washing & Storing Spreader Bar Hammocks
Because the spreader bars in rope and fabric hammocks are usually not removable, they can't be machine-washed. To
clean this type of hammock, lay it out flat on a clean surface, such as a deck. Then use a soft brush, and water mixed with a mild
detergent, to clean each side carefully and thoroughly. Be sure to hang your hammock up to dry as soon as possible, ideally in warm
sunshine. Treat with a protective spray before storing either in a sturdy storage bag or by hanging from a hook.
